It starts with the same hand-selected, full-grain leather from Patagonia, Argentina that we use across the collection — then adds what the rest of the collection does not have: 316 stainless steel shields around all four corners, and a Bonded Layer of reinforcement underneath.
Available in two versions — one precision-fitted for iPhone 18 Pro and one for iPhone 18 Pro Max — and in two corner finishes: Buckler with smooth 316 stainless steel shields, or Buckler ST with a striped finish. Select your model and your corners before adding to cart; each case is crafted to the exact dimensions of the iPhone you choose, and the two model versions are not interchangeable.
Under the leather, the Tri-Layer Core does the everyday work: a 0.8 mm full-grain leather exterior, a 1 mm Tritan Copolyester backbone that disperses impact, and a 0.6 mm Caterina leather lining that guards against micro-scratches. Buckler adds the Bonded Layer on top of that structure and a hard-anodized aluminum ring around the camera system. The corners get their own defense because they are where a dropped iPhone lands first, and no amount of leather changes that.
All of it costs 7 grams. The Buckler Grip weighs 63 grams (2.22 oz) against the 56 grams of our slim Grip Leather Case — same leather, same Tri-Layer Core, same MagSafe charging, with steel corners and an extra layer of reinforcement added.
Buckler is also part of V-Mag, Vaja's magnetic attachment system. Built-in N52 rare-earth magnets charge on Apple MagSafe chargers without removing the case, and they carry the add-ons: snap on the Wallet Wrap to turn the Buckler Grip into a full leather wallet case with cards, cash and a cover over the screen, or add a Mini Wallet, Card Wallet or Fold Stand when your day calls for it. Shipping starts on September 25, 2026. Orders placed before that date are pre-orders and ship in the order they were placed, so ordering earlier means yours leaves our workshop earlier. You can cancel a pre-order at any time before it ships, at no cost. If that date changes, we will email you the new date and you can cancel for a full refund.
Both are handcrafted in the same full-grain Patagonia leather, both use the Tri-Layer Core, and both charge on Apple MagSafe and take V-Mag add-ons. The Buckler Grip adds 316 stainless steel shields on all four corners and the Bonded Layer, for 7 grams: 63 grams against 56. Choose the Buckler Grip if you drop your phone, work outdoors, or simply want the most protective leather case we make. Choose the Grip Leather Case if the lightest possible profile matters more to you than reinforced corners.
Three things the rest of the range does not have, on top of the standard construction: 316 stainless steel shields on all four corners, the Bonded Layer of added reinforcement, and a hard-anodized aluminum ring around the camera system. Together with the Tri-Layer Core underneath, they concentrate defense on the areas most exposed in an everyday drop. The same construction protects both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max versions.
Because corners take the impact first. A phone that lands on a corner concentrates the entire force of the drop into a few millimetres, and leather on its own cannot spread that load. The four 316 stainless steel shields are designed to deflect and redirect that energy away from the corner and into the body of the case. 316 is the marine-grade alloy, chosen because it resists corrosion from skin contact and humidity over years of daily handling.
The Bonded Layer is an additional layer of reinforcement that sits with the Tri-Layer Core to form a stiffer, stronger structure than the Tri-Layer Core alone. It is what separates Buckler from the rest of the Vaja range on protection, and it is present in both the Buckler Grip and the Buckler Wallet.

Only the finish of the steel. Buckler comes with smooth 316 stainless steel corner shields; Buckler ST comes with the same shields in a striped finish. Protection, weight, leather and MagSafe performance are identical, so choose on looks alone.
Yes. Integrated N52 rare-earth magnets are designed for reliable alignment and charging with Apple MagSafe chargers on both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max versions, with the case on. The steel corner shields sit away from the magnetic area and do not interfere with charging.
All of them. V-Mag is Vaja's magnetic attachment system, and the Buckler Grip carries the Wallet Wrap, the Mini Wallet, the Card Wallet and the Fold Stand. Adding the Wallet Wrap turns the Buckler Grip into a full leather wallet case with a screen cover, and the pair weighs 149 grams; note that the Wallet Wrap has to be removed to charge on MagSafe, which is exactly the trade the built-in Buckler Wallet avoids.
